SAXOPHONE / KEYBOARDS
Stephen loves music and sound. Music was important in his upbringing. The 5th child of 8, there were many instruments at his disposal and he started learning at an early age: Trombone, Clarinet, Organ, Piano.
Growing up in the 70’s and 80’s meant exposure to recordings in a wide variety of musical styles. As a teenager, Stephen became enamored with electronic synthesis. He built his own modular analog synthesizer and listened to countless progressive rock recordings by bands such as: Camel, King Crimson, Genesis, ELP, and, of course, Pink Floyd.
By the time he finished high school, Stephen was determined to attend college, earn a degree in Electrical Engineering, and then ‘go build synthesizers’. But during his early college years Stephen added guitar and saxophone to his list of instruments and began performing and touring with several original and cover bands. School became secondary but he finished a degree in Physics and then a second degree in Music Therapy. This was the crossroads: pursue a career as a professional musician or follow the science/engineering path. Stephen chose the latter, earned a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and ‘built synthesizers’. Well, sort of.
He worked for more than 20 years as an engineer for Harman Music Group developing products for brands such as: JBL, dbx, Lexicon, DigiTech. Stephen remains an active amateur musician, performing locally as a multi-instrumentalist.
